The Flinders University Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) in Adelaide, Australia, represents a landmark investment valued at $280 million, building on over 50 years of health and medical teaching at Flinders University. This state-of-the-art facility significantly advances Australia’s world-leading medical research achievements. Spanning 22,000 square meters across ten stories, the HMRB is designed to integrate cutting-edge medical research with clinical expertise, while fostering connections with community, culture, and nature. It has set global benchmarks in digital excellence, being the first medical institute worldwide to achieve a Platinum rating from WiredScore for its advanced capabilities.

Connected played a pivotal role in this ambitious project, collaborating closely with Architectus and Hansen Yuncken to deliver a comprehensive laboratory fit-out using our industry-leading Modulab Connect system. The building incorporates Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) and Biosecurity Containment Level 2 (BC2) laboratories, along with non-laboratory health and medical research areas. Designed for versatility, the space accommodates various workflows, group sizes, and research streams. Inside, the facility provides a collaborative environment for over 600 researchers, clinicians, and support staff, with flexible spaces that can be easily reconfigured to adapt to evolving scientific and technological advancements. The design promotes an efficient and dynamic research environment, reflecting Connected’s commitment to excellence in construction management and innovation.
